2015DBRP_096 Deut7-8 Ps53 Acts9b

Ben Woody has been posting questions for us each week at the Digging Deeper Forum. You can discuss the answers at dailybiblereading.info/forum.

*Deuteronomy: Moses reviews the greatest commandment and gives direction as to how we should respond to and implement the commandment. Which ways will you put into action?

* Psalms: One of this week's Psalms says that God looks to see if anyone understands, if anyone seeks after Him. We may not understand everything in Scripture, but He “causes” us to seek Him if we are Christ followers. Blessings as you read.

*Acts: In this week's readings, you will find a situation where Peter has been imprisoned for preaching the gospel. The church has gathered to pray for his release. How would you describe their prayer? Have you experienced an answered prayer that you had a hard time believing was the answer when it came?

Yesterday in Deuteronomy we heard Moses repeating the 10 Commandments and pleading with the people that they remain faithful in obeying all the commands and regulations the Lord gave. The reading ended with an important statement to remember when considering the difference between the old and new covenants::

“For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the LORD our God has given us.’”

Psalm 53 is another Psalm that is quoted in the New Testament, and therefore, often quoted in general. This is a tell-it-like-it-is psalm, not a sweet and flowery poem.

We turn for the second time to Acts 9. In the first half of this chapter,  we heard most of the story of Saul's dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus.

Translation notes:

14 And he is authorized by the leading priests to arrest everyone who calls upon your name [here//0].”

21 All who heard him were amazed [and asked//0]. “Isn’t this the same man who caused such devastation among Jesus’ followers in Jerusalem?” [0//they asked]. “And didn’t he come here to arrest them and take them in chains to the leading priests?”

25 So during the night, some of [his fellow/the other] believers lowered him in a large basket through an opening in the city wall.

34 Peter said to him, “Aeneas, [Christ Jesus//Jesus Christ] heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly.
