DBRP_Apr11_2014 Deut17-18 Ps58 Acts13a

Today in Leviticus 18 we hear the very important teaching that all these practices are detestable to the Lord:  “fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.” All those practices are so common in the USA today. But in the same chapter the Lord gives one of the most important prophecies: “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.” Peter quoted that verse in Acts 3 and Stephen quoted it in Acts 7.

Psalm 58 is a psalm that celebrates that God will indeed give justice to His people, even though many times it seems to us that there is no justice on earth.

Today we hear of Paul and Barnabas' ministry on Cyprus. John Mark basically jumps ship, leaving the ministry and returning to Jerusalem. And Paul begins his message at Antioch, not the one in Syria but the one in Pisidia province.
