DBRP_035 EXO.9 EXO.10 JOB.35 JAS.4

Let’s turn to EXODUS 9-10.

The two chapters we read yesterday included the story of Aaron's staff becoming a serpent, and the plagues of blood, frogs, gnats, and flies.

Translation notes:
19 Now give orders for your livestock and everything else you have in the open to be put under shelter. Hail will fall on the people and animals left outside unprotected, and they will all die.’ ”

Evidently enough time had passed between the plague against the livestock so that the Egyptians were able to buy livestock, and I am sure the people of Israel profited in that!

Turning to JOB 35:

This is Elihu's 4th chapter preaching to Job.

Let’s turn to JAMES 4:

Yesterday James preached about controlling the tongue, then he taught about the qualities of wisdom from God.

Translation notes:
4 Unfaithful people!* Don't you know that to be the world's friend means to be God's enemy? People who want to be the world's friends make themselves God's enemies.
*4:4 Greek You adulteresses!

This is about faithfulness to God, using human adultery as a picture of it. That is exactly how God views it— as we will see again in many passages of the Old Testament.

5 Don't think that there is no truth in the scripture that says, “The spirit that God placed in us is filled with fierce [jealous] desires.”
16 But now [in your talking/planning//0] you are proud, and you boast; all such boasting is wrong.
